Motivation and Commitment – What Moves You?

A Fickle Muse

Motivation is easy. Seriously – just open Instagram or Pinterest, and you’ll have a deluge of inspiration from working out to eating better to 10 easy steps to a beautiful home.

Motivation is just as easily lost. Warm comfy pajamas and a plush couch…your motivation will be nowhere to be found.

Motivation is a fickle muse.

Getting started is only half the battle – my favorite workout trick is GETTING to the gym. If I can just get through the door, I’ll work out. And “I really regret working out,” said no one ever.

The new year is ripe with motivation. Take a moment and think back to year’s past…when you…

Ran a 5k
Lost weight
Started a new class
Visited a new church or support group
Called an old friend
Organized the kitchen

Start off GREAT…but then…

We generally start the year off great because the motivation is all around us…but, we simply can’t maintain.

I think it’s because we haven’t fully defined our WHY. We use the shotgun approach to improving our life without taking the time to entirely think through what the goals really mean to us and why we even care.

It’s still early enough in January to stop the madness. What if you take that January inspired motivation and sit down with a pen and paper and think about what this year could mean for you. And then, identify 1 or 2 things that you are both MOTIVATED and DETERMINED to invest your time and energy in this year.

I explore more about this over at Slay The Chaos here and here if you’re interested in learning more.

Thanks for the encouragement today Donna. This is the year for lots of change, but I feel far better equipped this time around. I don’t exactly have resolutions, but I do have some goals. I am looking forward to meeting them and beating them.

Visiting you today from FMF (your neighbor at #68)

    Happy New Year!
