Truth or Dare?
Dare: Say out loud “I am beautiful”
Can you do it? Do you believe it?
Feels awkward yes? Why? I’m betting because when I asked you to say out loud “I am beautiful” your thoughts went immediately to your butt, your thighs, your stomach. How crazy is it that we put so much emphasis on our vessel instead of its contents?
We focus on our skin instead of our soul.
47 is in the rearview mirror and 48 is up ahead. I can assure you there’s a lot of age happening to my vessel. I’ve got some dings, some dimples, some spread, some wrinkles, and a few gray hairs to boot. But my soul? I’m rocking it (tonight 😂).
Last year Trevor and I traveled to a redwood forest in northern California. I had heard of the redwoods and I had seen pictures but when we finally hiked into one of the oldest sections of the park, my breath was taken away. Words do not do a redwood forest justice. It’s kinda like being in Jurassic Park. You, the human, are super tiny and the forest is huge. All of it. The trees, the plants, the path, the essence of it.
And…it’s quiet. Sure, there’s the occasional bird, the rustle of leaves, a critter underfoot…but it’s a reverent quiet. The kind of quiet where you can hear your soul.
And…you are filled with a sense of wonder. You can hardly stand it, it’s so splendid.
And…that’s how I know I’m rocking it…at least for tonight. That forest is God’s creation. It’s quiet, it’s confident, it’s wonderful, it’s beautiful beyond words.
And…so am I…my soul puts that forest to shame.
And…you too…your soul is beautiful beyond words.
I dare you – say it out loud.
