Check Engine

My check engine light came on a couple of days ago…sigh.

  • I ignored it for a couple of days hoping it’d go away (yeah)
  • Then I got my oil changed…it was only 2,000 miles overdue (I know, another conversation for another time)
  • Then I changed the air filter
  • Then another day or two of ignoring

All to no avail

Time for the dealership…the dreaded dealership.  I pull up and there are at least 5 cars in line and the garage is FULL!  Egads

To my delight, a gentleman comes out and is in charge of triage.  He has in his hand a fancy little device that can be plugged into the car and “read” the issue.

Turns out I have a small leak in my emissions system…who knew? So why does all this matter? As I was driving back to work…because of course it couldn’t be taken care of TODAY…being 15th in line and all…I daydreamed what it would be like to have a fancy gadget for our lives.

Feeling a little out of whack? Plug in
Feeling mad for no particular reason? Plug in
Irritable? Discontent? Sad? Plug in
Or what about destructive behavior…AGAIN?!? Plug in and get a reading.

Unfortunately, in our lives we do not have a computer that can tell us exactly what’s wrong or what adjustments need to be made but we do have the Word.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

There you go…spend regular time in the word and prayer and it’ll change your life.  It’s the equivalent of plugging in the car.  You’ll learn all kinds of things about yourself, you’ll better understand the lessons going on in your life, you’ll find comfort in God’s tremendous love for you, and much more.  It is simply amazing.

What’s your check engine message today?  I’d love to hear from you!
