Celebrate Life!

When you hear “Celebrate Life” what comes to mind?

That beautiful baby girl? Whole life out ahead…

DM BabyOr maybe you think about the crazy old lady who’s lived a good ol’ life…still rocking the Jeep Life…30 years in the future…

Old Donna

This is today’s Live Out Loud photo promptCelebrate Life…and the thought occurred to me this morning…what about the mid-life?  We celebrate the beginning and end with fanfare but what about 46? Mid life blah?  No way Jose – we’re celebrating the middle today – the middle does not come without blood, sweat, and tears.  The middle is often hard fought, well earned and if we’re not careful will pass us in the blink of an eye.  Ask anyone with kids leaving home…the days are long but the years are short.

So today, you and I are gonna celebrate the 46…you’ve seen these lists before but this is my blog AND my birthday so yeah…a list of MY  celebrations today…

Confidence – oh to be comfortable in my own skin.  To not make as many fashion mistakes, to wake up and not squirm, to have pink hair and multiple ear piercings, to be able to say no, to be able to say hell yes…let’s do it. You cannot buy confidence…it’s earned.

Letting IT Go – whatever IT is!  Letting go of the expectation of how I think things should be, how you are doing things, how I want things, whatever IT is…to stop grasping/clinging and start relaxing is a beautiful thing.

Living in Realityyou’ve heard – if the grass is greener on the other side it’s probably fake – amen to that – EVERY single one of us is struggling with something.  NOT ONE of us has it all together.  Praise God! To stop judging and be kind is liberating.

Surviving difficult situations – Part of being a grownup is the ability to have a difficult conversation with someone…not with claws out but with love and grace.  It’s about walking through hard times with head held high…it’s about learning to keep putting one foot in front of the other. KNOWING who you belong to in spite of the circumstances. Difficult yes, deadly no.

Sleep – Yes, I love to sleep.  Yes, when given the opportunity, I will go to bed at 8:30p on a Friday night…don’t judge.  There’s nothing like a good, long, night’s sleep.

Live Out Loud – seriously y’all – ESPECIALLY in the middle – kids are gone, time on your hands, still spry…what is your dream? How do you want to spend your days? Where is God calling you?  This is an exciting time – stop sleepwalking and embrace the freedom!

Love – it’s the best – from my husband, family, friends.  It’s the most precious thing a person can have – protect it – protect it from pride, from fear, from stubbornness, from neglect…make it a priority and you’ll never be sorry.

The middle is pretty great – it’s certainly better than no middle – take some time today to celebrate wherever you are…the years are short!
