She stood in the storm, and when the wind did not blow her away, she adjusted her sails.
– Elizabeth Edwards
Love, love, love.
Do you live under the “If Only” umbrella?
I think we all do at one time or another. There’s the if I could only lose weight. If I was only smarter. If I only had more money. If I only had more time. If my spouse were only more loving. If only my children were better. We don’t always say it out loud but there are many times we are waiting for the “if only” time.
I created the above image last year during a particularly daunting time. The Bible verse is what held me together during the turmoil but what I loved the most was the proactive response to life’s winds.
Firstly, the wind is gonna blow. Life is full of ups, downs, and all arounds. While not welcome most of the time, trials are what make us better humans.
Secondly, the wind didn’t blow her away. We are often stronger than we believe. And the wind never lasts – perhaps it didn’t blow her away because she persevered in spite of it.
And finally, yeah, I can totally see me screaming a cry of victory into the roaring wind “you will not destroy me!” and adjusting those sails.
What “if only” stands in your way of peace today? What sails do you need to adjust?
