You’ve heard the saying and if you’re a parent of young children you’ve probably rolled your eyes a time or two but hear me when I say this…THEY GROW UP FAST! This past weekend I was going through some old photos for a project and couldn’t believe the change in my children from their time in youth group – 6th grade through 9th (Evan) and 11th (Trevor).
Most of the change is obvious…they go from scrawny 12 year old 6th graders to the beginnings of the men they will become. I have been so honored to be a part of their journey first as their mother but also as a student leader. And not just them (although they’re my favorites)…all the students I’ve known through the years, the events, the lock-ins (yikes), the mission trips, the Bible studies…they all add up to many, many wonderful memories in our mutual spiritual walk.
While it’s not over just yet, the end is near. Both of my children are in high school…Trevor will be a senior next year. Some days I want to cry and others I’m excited to see how their lives will unfold.
But one thing is for certain…NO REGRETS! I’ve been there. I’ve participated. I’ve been present. I’ve left NOTHING on the table…and it’s BEEN great! So I encourage you today if you’re a parent…grab a kid…kiss em, hug em, spend time with them, be there with them…even when they’re surly teenagers…it matters and IT GOES BY SO FAST!
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14
