It’s 5a and I’m up…to be completely honest, it’s because I have a TON of stuff to get through today and I wanted a jump start.
But it’s also because I want to have some time to study the Bible. Years ago, for Lent, I started getting up extra early so I’d have time to study and over the years it has ebbed and flow. I usually do some sort of scripture reading or study but it’s all mainly been in the form of email devotions or Bible Gateway etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that! In fact, my whole electronic footprint is filled with scripture…my inbox, my text messages, my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook…wherever I am in the internet there is scripture.
But this past week, at the CIY conference, one of the speakers had a Bible…a very worn Bible…and I was reminded of the saying that says – A Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t
And you know what…I want to have the life that is the result of a well-worn Bible…so here I am, early in the morning…preparing to encounter our Lord. With my physical Bible…I’m touching the pages, writing in the margins and letting it feed me in ways the internet scripture feed cannot. I found this other blog this morning…she is much more eloquent than me…and may be an encouragement to you.
