When I became a Christian I discovered the Bible. I know that sounds trite and maybe a little bit of a cliche but I’m serious…I absolutely adore reading the Bible. It comforts me, it corrects me, it gives me answers, hope, confidence and more than once I’ve felt the Lord’s pleasure in me as I studied it.
So this morning, just two days before Christmas, during my prayer time I came across this jewel:
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. — Zephaniah 3:17
You see…I am not a big fan of Christmas…I do not like all the expectations, the pressure, the materialism of the holidays. Also, Christmas coincides with year-end and being an administrator of a church, year end brings all kinds of additional duties and responsibilities…oy…enough to turn me into a grinch!
But this verse…especially the part about how he will quiet me with His Love…was a beautiful reminder to be quiet, remember who I belong to and to enjoy the celebration of His son’s birth…the rest is just details.
Merry Christmas to you and yours…DM
