Oh The Irony

I am honored and excited, this week, to be on a mission trip team from COTHA to serve the people of Guatemala. You can follow our adventures at http://cotha.typepad.com/cotha_evangelism

I love mission trips!  But they are not without irony for me.  Before I became a Christian I used to think Christians were crazy…at the very least kooky.  I bristled at their lifestyle, their daily choices, how they framed their days etc.  Going to church, reading their Bibles and praying out loud…sheesh.  Not only that but they go to the far corners of the world on mission trips.

Ha ha – the irony.

Never, never would I have dreamed 10 years ago the direction my life would take…or the job I would have…or the amazing people who would be in my life.  I would have never believed the transformation in my heart and mind.

So yes, I am a crazy Christian,  I pray daily and often for God’s wisdom and strength and am grateful for His redemption.  I read my Bible regularly and have no problem throwing out a prayer regardless of who is around.  And as I write this, I’m 30,000 feet in the air traveling to some remote village in Guatemala where I’ll be an instrument in God’s glory!  Frankly, I can’t imagine living any other way :)

How about you?  What is the tug on your heart? Where is God calling you to serve? It doesn’t have to be an international mission trip…it can be in the local church, a local outreach or wherever…the point is let God open your eyes, transform your heart and refuse to look away. I’d love to help you discern…when I get back of course :)

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:10-14
