Let that sh!t go
Hello? That’s rather blunt. Yes, yes it is.
Let’s start at the beginning of 2017…
What’s your word for 2017? It was a new year’s trend that I saw several times on social media in the month of January. And frankly, I thought it was rather clever. Instead of resolutions that we make and break before you can say Groundhog’s Day, the idea of a word or intention was compelling. And if you’ve been around me long you can probably guess that my word would be Brave.
It’s where I am in my journey…
But as January rocked along another word bubbled up – WHY and it’s cousins Intentional and Mindful.
AND THEN I came along a quote by Carey Nieuwhof…“The most dangerous lies are the lies we tell ourselves…”
Totally ties into intentional living, yes? But mindful living…really?
But wait…there’s more…there was the Sunday school class and looking at John 5:6
Well crap. That’s a whole lot of looking at myself. Big girl panty time.
I want to be Intentional and Mindful
I don’t wanna be lying to myself
I want to get well
Where to even begin? Let’s be intentional and start with the lies…
I need _________________
Discipline is optional
I don’t have time
My life should look differently than it does
Your life looks better than mine
If things were different, I’d be happier
If I can just manage to get my ducks in a row all will be good
Peace can be obtained by my outside circumstances
If you loved me/cared about me you’d ____________
I’ll remember (lol)
And on and on the lies go
Yes…yes, I do want to get well.
AND that’s how we got to Let that sh!t go…
Getting well – the lies we tell ourselves become habits, yes? We’ve told them so many times we believe them. And being habits, we stop questioning. We stop being mindful of the inner dialogue. And SOMETIMES – we KNOW we’re telling ourselves a lie but we’re too afraid/lazy to admit it and make a change. That’s where brave steps in. It takes courage to make lasting change.
Let’s be intentional and stop the lying – be brave – intentional – mindful – well
Let go material cravings – take a good, long, hard look at financial commitments
Let go of time commitments that don’t feed my soul
Be disciplined. Get my butt up of the couch and workout. Read/Study books. Watch my spending/eating/time.
I don’t have time – yes you do – you have the same 24 hours everyone else has – be wise
Let go of what I want life to look like and start embracing the life I’ve been given
There are no ducks in a row
Real peace can only be found in KNOWING who I belong to and trusting His provision
My happiness CANNOT be dependent on your behavior. Let that sh!t go.
Really – write it down – you won’t remember
And on and on the bravery goes
So what about you? Do you have a word for 2017? An intention? I’d love to hear about it.
