Are you familiar with the following Bible verse?
What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:11-13
The verse is a good reminder to this parent of teenagers. It’s been a little crazy around here of late and on more than one occasion I have thought to myself “these kids are killing me!”
Not literately of course but they sure are stretching me. And as James and I have walked through this thing called life with our children we’ve been guided by our love for them as well as wanting the best for them. Since they have been born we’ve loved them more than life itself. I know I am not alone in this love for my children…I am surrounded by many friends and families that place family as a priority.
But here is why I love the verse so much…. If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” As much as I love my children and want the best for them…God wants even more for me! And it’s freely available…I just have to ask.
And the best part…as I contemplate this season of life and the Bible verse, you know he’s not the only one smacking his forehead and thinking that “These kids are killing me!”
