Expect is a dangerous word…the cousin of assume.

We expect so much from our lives and other people but when you pause and think about it…it’s kind of ludicrous…

We expect to wake up – every single morning (some people don’t you know)
We expect that our people will be the same way they were yesterday (the good and the bad…some people grow and some people grow crazy)
We expect our health to stay the same.
We expect the world to be the same – hello 9/11 – hello summer 2016
We expect the unrealistic of ourselves.

I’m loving this graphic and it’s perfect representation of how I think of myself – whether it be my recovery, or my writing career, or my little side business, or the project I’m working on, or the progress of others in my life in their endeavors.

Furthermore, having expectations of God…knowing his ways are not our ways but still throwing a fit.  Makes me think of Viktor Frankl – horrible experience in the Nazi prison camps – pretty sure those weren’t his expectations for the years there. But he bloomed where he was planted and we have a spectacular example as a result.

I think I would like to put EXPECT up with SHOULD and ASSUME in the out of bounds word box.

Time’s up.

Linking up with #fiveminutefriday today! Five minutes of uninterrupted writing…no editing. No overthinking. Just write! Today’s word is: EXPECT

It’s Five Minute Friday and that means you write for 5 minutes (and truth be known, I struggle with the no editing and sometimes cheat a little – which just means I still need lots of practice). The exercise of writing for just five minutes is to help build a writing discipline and I thank you for tagging along as I work on my writing craft! You can learn more about and join the FMF writing challenge at www.fiveminutefriday.com

    Hi Donna,
I love this. Simple but very effective. And so true. It follows along with the words, should, need to, have to, must…
As I said in my post the only thing we know is we can expect God to follow through on His promises, expect Him to love and care for us.

I find it quite ironic that the next blog suggestion at the bottom is entitled “expectations”….

I love the graphic! It’s funny how we can hold on to our expectations even when experience tells us that the reality will be very different. I’m glad God can work things for good even when life doesn’t turn out as we expect. Visiting from FMF #41.

Love the graphic. My reality is often a scribble. But we can still bloom in the chaos—through the chaos—because God is constant and sure.
