Oy! Another month bites the dust! June came and is gone in a blink of an eye. How’d you do? Did you accomplish a goal? Work towards a long-term goal? Did you spend your time on the things that matter to you or was it like an hourglass, the time just slipping by?
I’m sure you’ve heard it before:
“Being effective is about doing the right things, while being efficient is about doing the things in the right manner.”
But did you know the saying is not just business/workplace/market wisdom but also in your individual life. I am a master of efficiency…I love developing systems and creating great workflow…but good grief…what good is that skill if I’m not working on what really matters to me, my family and my Lord.
Yesterday, I was introduced to Orange curriculum…it’s something COTHA will be introducing in the Fall for our family ministry. In the introduction video, the speaker talked a lot about strategy…in fact, in case you were wondering how these two thoughts were going to come together, it reminded me of the effective/efficient relationship.
It’s the effectiveness of your strategy, not the scope of your mission, that ultimately determines your success. From Think Orange, pg 115
A strategy is a plan of action with an end in mind.
So what’s your strategy? How do you make sure you are aligning your time with your values and goals?
This past year I’ve embraced the Agile Results philosophy which basically prescribes the power of three. Each year, you decide on 3 outcomes (goals) you’d like to accomplish and then each month, you decide on three outcomes (goals) that support those three annual goals. Then each week, three outcomes (goals) and then each day. And guess what, if you screw up one day, you get back on track the next. The point is, you are focused on the end in mind…EVERY DAY. It’s had an amazing impact on my effectiveness.
It’s July 1st, the beginning of a new month…take some time today and name your goals or desired outcomes for the month and then today…what three things can you do that move you closer?!?
