Day 6 – Happy Birthday Nicole!

Take a moment…go ahead and put down the phone…take a deep breath…and if you’re anything like me fix a cup of tea.  There…better?

We’re always in a rush from one thing to the next and rarely taking time to reflect.  Reflection is an awesome discipline.  I’ve taken to journaling twice a day.  Once in the morning to reflect on whatever I read that morning – whether a devotion, scripture, or a meditation book – and then again after the work day.  I’ve discovered that the end of work day journal is so beneficial for improving my productivity but also my attitude and outlook.  Ever wonder at the end the day what the heck did you accomplish?  Or how about the week or the month.  Unless we take time to look back and assess, we are like trees in the wind…under the mercy of the tyranny of the urgent.

Anywho…I digress…

Today is my sweet sister-in-law’s birthday and this evening I’ve been reflecting back over the years.  We’re not as close as we once were…life, children, careers have a habit of doing that…but I’m also learning that relationships have seasons – AND that’s another reason to absolutely enjoy the days that you spend…you never know when life will take you in another direction.

Anywho…I digress again…

Back in the day before I had children I was Mrs. Career Woman – had the whole thing all figured out.  Nicole on the other hand was all about staying home and raising children.  Frankly, I had no idea what she was thinking but yeah…to each their own.

As mentioned about life having a way of taking you in unplanned directions, I found myself staying home when Trevor was 5 and Evan 3.  I was clueless but I felt like home was where God was calling me to be so there I was…alone.

Except I wasn’t alone…Nicole was there and was she ever.  She influenced me in so many positive ways…FullSizeRender-3

I was a new Christian…through our friendship she influenced me to start studying the Bible…and applying the scripture to my life.

FullSizeRender-2She MADE me join MOPS – which to this day I am forever grateful…learning what/how to be a Christian mom and Godly wife.

FullSizeRender-4She taught me gentleness and compassion – although yes, I still work on today but can you imagine me without her influence – lol

FullSizeRender-5She loved to scrapbook and was so creative.  I would watch and learn as I created my own scrapbooks. To this day they are some of my most prized possessions.

Nicole – thank you so much for everything…walking with me, for being my friend, for all the good times…AND happy, happy, birthday day! I love you <3
