Day 30 – Hello Friday

You’re here, you’re here!
Finally you’re here!

Hello Friday Night!

I have always loved Friday night.
Before marriage and kids it was about going out with friends.
Then there were the young marrieds and nights of card games.
Then it was the kick-off to a weekend of young family fun.
Then there was the family movie nights with pizza, popcorn, snuggles and the Blockbuster movie rental.
Then came the years of sporting practice and games on Saturday.
Then we had a couple of years of Friday night lights and watching the band.
And now?  Now it’s pretty much just James and I.  Trevor is off to college and Evan usually out with friends.

But you know what…it’s really okay…because on most Fridays it’s DATE NIGHT.  Y’all familiar with the idea?  Maybe, maybe not.  I’m learning of more and more couples that are facing an empty nest…or decades of marriage that are calling it quits.  I’m so sad for them.

Seriously…a lot of the hard work has been done!  The sleepless nights of young children.  The crazy schedules of a young family.  The insane years of raising teenagers.  The ups and downs of establishing careers.  The making of a house into a home.  All the things that go into making a group of people into a family.  And now…now it can be some of the best years.  We get to get back to us.  We get to enjoy some of the fruit of our labors…together.

So yeah…regardless of what season you are in…take some time this evening…or this coming week to go have dinner with your love…just the two of you.  Get back to y’all.
