Day 3 – Then and Now

Yesterday I shared about taking “tricks” off your beam if they weren’t life giving – today let’s chat for a moment about a couple of “tricks” that put a fire in my belly… mission work, students and living out loud.

Mission Work
Today our church, COTHA, had the opportunity from Habitat for Humanity and Compassion Katy to work on a house for a single mom and her son.  Both of them were out on the job site working along the volunteers in decking a roof.  I love how HFH is not only focused on building homes but also changing lives.  The folks that qualify for a home have a laundry list of training, schooling, requirements, and expectations they must complete to be granted a home.  It’s an amazing program and I was blessed to be a part of it today.

Students
Are you familiar with Timehop?  It’s an awesome time capsule app for your phone that enables you to look back each day to your history of that day.  So today, October 3, it brought up all the pictures, status postings, etc I’ve made over the years on October 3.  AND it just so happens six years ago today I was in Mexico serving lunch to a community with a handful of young students…one of whom belongs to me.  AND it so happens that two of those students were with me again today.  Being the annoying adult that I am I thought it’d be apropos to do a then and now.  You can see how thrilled they are but they did it.

Living out Loud
Reflecting on the day and the “coincidence” I was reminded once again how precious my life really is…and how each and every day I pour a portion of it out for something.  Sometimes it’s worthy like today and others, well, not so much…but regardless, what we do matters…each day we give up a day of our lives for something… let’s make it count.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  James 4:14
