Day 20 – Well Done Good and Faithful Servant

My work life right now is very intense.
Too much to do in too little time.
Several moving pieces; one dependent on the other.
Not really sure how to do some of it…learning on the fly.
And I’m having a pretty good time!

Now, I’ll admit, I find myself holding my breath at times…a stress reaction for me.  I also find myself waking up in the middle of the night pondering how something will work out.  I am also tempted to work, work, work until it’s all done; obsessively neglecting other responsibilities.  But for the most part, I’m handling the current challenges with grace and patience…mostly for myself but with others as well.

Today, I rocked it.  I was focused and knocked it out of the ballpark.  As I was packing up for the day I came across this quote that perfectly summed up my day…

“Look after your work, doing it with enthusiasm, humbly, with competency, passion and with a spirit that knows how to thank the Lord”  Pope Francis

And it occurred to me, not for the first time, that I have a job that perfectly aligns with my gifts and abilities.  I was created to be an administrator, knowledge worker, juggler, productivity geek, project manager, coordinator, and overall office badass.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have LOTS of issues in my workplace and given a choice, I’d rather travel for a living as opposed to creating stupendous spreadsheets.  However, what I AM saying is that I am grateful to have an enthusiastic passion for the work that has been assigned to me. I genuinely enjoy the work.  I get to spend my days serving a higher calling that just a paycheck.  And I absolutely love and depend on the Colossians 3:23 which reminds me frequently who and why I do what I do.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, Col 3:23

What about you? Do you love what you do? Can you see how God might have your gifts and abilities aligned with your work?  I’d love to hear about it.
