Curve Balls

Life threw me a curve ball this week…like seriously.

While I won’t bore you with the details, I will tell you that there were several things that got our family through the initial crisis and will continue to be essential to our continued journey.

I tell you these things because life is life and it is famous for throwing curve balls and turning on a dime.  Life today is not guaranteed to be the same tomorrow…we all need support systems to help us on this journey.

So here are some of the things that have been tremendous for me…

Having a relationship with God.  I was on my knees all weekend…in constant communion with my Lord.  He is my savior and my rock and I can’t imagine dealing with this without that conviction.

My husband…also my rock and my partner.  I can’t imagine trying to raise children by myself.

The Word of God.  I have always loved reading the Bible and have known for years that All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17  My quiet time in the Word prepared me for this challenge (and the ones to come) but also gave me hope and strength and knowledge.  It is my handbook for life.

Being a part of a small group at church…I love my small group.  I love being able to share about things going on in my life, learning and knowing I am not the only one going through things…it’s about being authentic and living life together.  It’s been a real blessing to me.

My friends and family.  We are deeply loved and we love deeply. Just as we would walk with them, they’ll walk with us.

Having committed adults in my children’s lives.  If you work with youth in any capacity and you’ve committed to sharing life together with them – THANK YOU!  There are never enough caring, committed adults in a child’s life.

And finally, my past.  Yep…you know all those previous challenges, curve balls, mistakes, bumps in the road etc that make up our lives…they are all used for His glory if we continue to let Him work in us and through us.  In turn, this current situation will also be used to give Him glory and to prepare me for the next challenge.

God Bless – DM+
